9:00 AM - 9:55 AM West Club - North Keynote Speaker Hans Bernhardt, Solutions Architect VMware
Summary Network Virtualization v101 for Your Grandma... Hans has described virtualization to Software Defined Datacenter to help us “get it” at a previous VTUG Summer Slam. Now he attempts the same with NSX Network & Security virtualization. The trick? Hans IS NOT a networking expert, but like many of us who taught ourselves networking while doing everything else just to get our jobs done! Entertaining and informative, he ties concepts together in a way you can describe to your Grandma. His presentation is a pre-cursor to Luca’s Camarda’s more in depth NSX Use Case.
9:00 AM - 9:55 AM West Club - Center Keynote Speaker Dan Stolts, Chief Technology Strategist Microsoft
Summary Datacenter Transformation to the Cloud...Do you need help making since of the “best” way to migrate your workloads to the cloud? If so, this session is for you. You will learn how you can leverage free tools and best practices for migrating workloads to the Cloud. Whether you have on-premises VM’s, web apps, structured data, unstructured data, files, or anything else, there are things you should know to before your next cloud migration. Did you know that you can limit downtime by literally “failing over” from on-premises to the cloud? Did you know your applications can likely be shifted from VMs to platform services with little or no work? Did you know there are significant cost differences between offerings which can save you money $$$ by doing it right; the first time? Regardless of your preference, lift-n-shift, sync-&-fail-over, optimize migrate, or standardize and future proof your workloads, you will get the information you need to start or continue your move to the cloud.
9:00 AM - 9:55 AM West Club - South Keynote Speaker Chris Colotti & Luigi Danakos IT User Presentation
Summary Five Laws to live by in our world of Technology; Staying Relevant as your career matures...Many folks have been in Information Technology quite some time. Chris Colotti and Luigi Danakos are no exception to that, with a combined 30 plus years between them. The challenge in our field is managing to stay ahead of the curve in an industry that moves this fast. Humans have a harder time learning as we get older and that can affect our ability to grow our careers and ourselves in new directions. Chris and Luigi will talk to attendees in this keynote specifically about their experiences, while at the same time helping many attendees see that there are ways to maneuver this industry. The talk will be largely adapted from a book known as the 15 Laws of Growth written by John C Maxwell. Both Chris and Luigi are long time New Englanders, Patriots fans, involved community members, and dynamic speakers.
10:00 AM - 10:55 AM West Club - North Keynote Speaker Luca Camarda, Solutions Architect VMware
Summary NSX Use Cases... This session builds on the knowledge you gain at the “Network Virtualization v101 for Your Grandma " and presents examples of how you can leverage NSX to solve the business challenges in your organization. Now that you have micro-segmentation, VXLAN, and distributed routing in your arsenal, let's discuss how we can use those tools to improve the security of your DMZ, achieve a higher consolidation ratio, embed security in your dynamically created applications, and simplify your BCDR strategy.
10:00 AM - 10:55 AM West Club - Center Keynote Speaker Randall Hunt, Sr Technical Evangelist Amazon Web Services
Summary Building “Serverless” Applications... Serverless computing allows you to build and run applications without thinking about servers. You don’t need to provision, scale, or manage any infrastructure. If your application is idle your costs should be zero. In this talk we will code and deploy several AWS Lambda functions that have real world utility from application backends to chat bots to IoT. You should leave this talk excited about the possibilities of serverless applications and how you can use this new paradigm in your existing applications.
10:00 AM - 10:55 AM West Club - South Keynote Speaker Jonathan Frappier & Kyle Ruddy IT User Presentation
Summary Get Started Ansible-izing Your Environment with vSphere’s RESTful APIs!...Configuration drift is a real thing and many administrators have a stockpile of scripts and workflows to help combat the issue, but there's a simpler way. Configuration Management allows admins to manage their infrastructure as code with tools like Ansible, Chef, DSC and Puppet. While the idea of this may sound complex, this session will walk attendees through some of the benefits and core concepts of configuration management plus how to get started in their own environments using vSphere’s RESTful APIs and Ansible!
11:00 AM - 11:55 AM West Club - Center Keynote Speaker Brad Maltz Dell EMC
Summary Is the Public Cloud the end game?... The industry as a whole continues to march forward with innovations in IOT, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Composable Infrastructure and much more. While these technologies are lining up to be the next set of revolutions, you the end user still has to provide your organization with decisions impacting application availability, acceptable performance and drive a multitude of efficiencies. During this session we will discuss factors that drive your decisions to implement applications in the Public Cloud or not and future trends.
